The genetic material is a single stranded RNA which has long nucleotides. There are few genes which encode for different types of proteins. The single stranded DNA is holded with a nucleocapsid. The capsid has different types of viral glycoproteins.

What are the signs and symptoms of West Nile virus?

It includes the different effects as the disease does not show any symptoms firstly. After that there is a mild fever which is followed by the neuro invasive disease and is known as the encephalitis. Most of the time it is asymptomatic and is followed by the mild fever which leads to the neuro invasive disease.

The incubation period is one week which is followed by the fever, chills, head ache, increase in sweating, weakness as well as increase in the size of lymph nodes. One can also note pain in the joints along with a flu or influenza. The symptoms take a week to heal. Fatigue is present for few weeks and later on the lymph nodes increase in size. It takes 60 days to heal. One can also notice rash and the gastro problems like the nausea, vomiting as well as loss of appetite. In adverse cases there is a loss of consciousness which may even lead to coma. The tendon reflexes are quite active and later on it disappears. They are also referred as the extra pyramidal problems. When fatigue occurs it means recovery is going to take place. In rare cases spinal cord is also involved.

How West Nile virus can be treated?

One can take anti retroviral drug as used in the case of HIV. The infections can also be treated with the help of ribavirin, immune globulin or different types of interferon. There are number of molecules which must be checked for the anti viral properties.
