It is defined as a disorder in which there is a growth on the skin. It is caused by a virus which belongs to the family of human papilloma virus. They are present on the hands, feet and in genital organs. They can even occur inside the mouth. They heal their own but one may need medicine in few cases. They are not life threatening but they can be passed from one generation to other.

What are the different types of warts?

It includes the common, flat, filiform, plantar, mosaic and genital wart. The common wart tells us about the wart which does not have smooth surfaces. They are present on the knees as well as hands.

The flat wart tells us about the small and smooth wart which occur in large numbers. They are present on the face, necks, wrist and hands.

The filliform wart tells us about the finger or thread like shape. They are also known as digitate wart. They mainly occur on the face and involve lips and eyelids mainly.

The plantar wart tells us about the lump which is very painful. It has black spots in the centre and some occur at the pressure points on sole.

The mosaic wart tells us about the multiple plantar warts which has black spots in the centre. They occur at the pressure points on soles and hands.

The genital wart tells us about the presence of warts on genital organs.

How warts can be diagnosed?

It includes the family history as well as patient symptoms.

How warts can be treated?

It includes the use of medicines mainly. The commonly used drugs are the salicylic acid or a solution which has this acid. One must clean the area around the wart and salicylic acid is applied on it. It will kill the wart tissues and the dead tissue is removed. It takes nearly 3 to 4 months to get rid of wart tissues.

There are few drugs which contain the salicylic acid and are available in a higher concentration and include the silver nitrate and chloro acetic acid.

Surgery is also done to remove the warts. It is a painful procedure and all warts cannot be removed with the help of surgery.

How warts can be prevented?

It includes the use of proper infection controlling measures.
