It includes the enamel caries, dentin caries, reversible caries, irreversible caries, pit and fissure, smooth surface, acute and chronic dental caries, primary and secondary caries.

In case of enamel caries there is an involvement of the enamel which is the outermost layer of teeth and it causes loss of minerals along with organic components.

In case of dentin caries there is an involvement of the dentin which is the second most layer of teeth and it causes loss of minerals along with organic components.

In case of reversible caries there are chances of caries to occur again.

In case of irreversible caries there are no chances of caries to occur again.

In case of pit and fissure caries there is an involvement of the rough surfaces of teeth.

In case of smooth surface caries there is an involvement of the smooth surfaces of teeth.

In case of acute caries there is a pain along with an inflammation which cannot be tolerated.

In case of chronic caries there is a there is a pain along with an inflammation which can be tolerated.

In case of primary caries there is an involvement of tooth surfaces which are not caries previously.

In case of secondary caries there is an involvement of tooth surfaces which are caries previously.
