It is defined as a disorder in which there are bone disorders in which there is an inflammation. It brings few changes in the skin. It has few common clinical as well as pathological changes. Radiological features are also similar. It was earlier known as the chronic recurrent multi focal osteo myelitis. It is referred as the CRMO. In many cases one sees the involvement of palms as well as soles. They have a lot of blisters. It is also in link with the number of other conditions. The term SAPHO was coined in the year 1987. It tells about the multiple bone disorders which may or may not be in link with the skin.
It includes the anterior part of the chest which shows increase in the size of bone along with a thickening of bone. In few cases flat bones such as the mandible as well as ilium are also involved. Almost in all of the cases there is a peripheral arthritis. In children we see an involvement of the long bones. In the later stages one sees the involvement of spine as well as clavicles.
It can be treated with the help of a bis phosphonate therapy. It is the first line of treatment. One needs a treatment with the help of tumor necrosis factor alpha antagonists. There are other drugs which can also be used. There are few patients who properly respond to antibiotics.
