It is defined as a disorder in which there is a problem in the chest. It is a rare defect of the birth. It is known as the Poland anomaly. There are few authors who mentioned it as a Poland sequence. In this case the chest muscles are absent and there is a presence of chest muscles on one side. There is webbing fingers of the hand of same side and are known as the cutaneous syndactyly. It involves the hand of same side and there is a unilateral condition. It is quite common among the males as compared to females. It can be bilateral also. Most of the times it involves right side of the body. In the year 1962 it came into picture. It was named by P Clarkson. He studied the patients with under developed breast which is present on the same side. The syndrome was not properly accepted. He worked with the other colleagues and came to conclusion.

What are the signs and symptoms of Poland syndrome or disease?

It includes the problem in gastro intestinal tract. There is no humerus and there is a problem in the liver. There is a problem in the diaphragm. There is a problem in the dextrocardia. There is no ulna and there is an absence of the radius. One can also notice diabetes as well as the simian crease on the side which is affected. There is dumbness in the rib. The ulna is no more. There is webbing fingers of the hand of same side and are known as the cutaneous syndactyly. It involves the hand of same side and there is a unilateral condition. The proximal side of the limbs is shorter and there is an absence of the nipples. There is a problem in the scapula too.

The kidneys have hypoplasia and there is a micro cephaly. The nipples are absent and there is a problem in the scapula. There is a problem in the hypo thalamus hypophyseal axis too. There is a poly dactyl too. There is a problem in the ureter as well as vertebra too.

What are the causes of Poland syndrome or disease?

It includes the unknown cause. Some authors say that there is a problem in the blood supply of embryo and the arteries are present at the collar bone about 50th day of development of embryo. It is the most common accepted theory.

How Poland syndrome or disease can be diagnosed?

It includes the use of visual examination as well as considering patient’s history.

How Poland syndrome or disease can be treated?

It cannot be treated with the help of any specific theory or medicines.
