It includes the pharmaco therapy and immune therapy mainly. In the pharmaco therapy there are many antagonistic drugs which are used to block the action of allergic mediators and also prevent the activation and degranulation processes.

It includes the anti histamines, cortisones, dexa methasone, hydro cortisone, adrenaline, theo phylline and cromolyn sodium. There were anti leukotrienes like accolade and singulair. These are FDA approved and help in the treatment of allergic diseases. There are anti cholinergics, decongestants, mast cells and stabilizers which are thought to affect the eosinophils chemo taxis. It is used commonly. It increases the symptoms and play a crucial role in the acute anaphylaxis but play little role in the chronic treatment of this disorder. In the immuno therapy there is hypo sensitization which is also known as the de sensitization. In this the patient is vaccinated by a larger dose of allergen. It reduces the severity and can eliminate the hyper sensitivity. It relies on the skewing of IgG antibody production which blocks the excess of IgE production seen in atopys. The person builds immunity which increases the amount of allergen.

There are few studies which have shown that the long term efficacy and preventive effects of immune therapy which decreases the chances of new allergy. There is a meta analysis which have shown that the efficacy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis in children and adults. There was review by mayo clinic in Rochester which confirmed that the safety and efficacy in the treatment of allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis including the allergic forms of asthma.

There is a stinging insect which is based on the multiple well designed studies. There are national and international guidelines which have been done and have shown that there is a clinical efficiency in the rhinitis and asthma when immune therapy is injected. It is safe and provides recommendations.

There is a second form of immune therapy which includes the intra venous injection of mono clonal antibodies. They have the ability to bind to free and B cell associated antibodies leading to the destruction. They do not bind to antibodies and which are already bound to the Fc receptors present on the basophiles and mast cells which stimulate the allergic inflammatory response. The first agent of this type is Omalizumab. This type of immune therapy is very effective in treating the different types of atopy. But one must avoid it to be used in the treatment of different types of food allergies. There is a third form of immune therapy which includes the sub lingual immune therapy in which an oral drug is given which takes the benefits of oral immune tolerance to non pathogenic antigens like food and resident bacteria. It accounts for 40 percent of the allergy treatment and is used in the Europe. In the United States it is getting quite popular now a day’s among the traditional allergists and is endorsed by the doctors who treat them.

The closest thing to cure for allergic symptoms is allergy shot treatment. It needs a long term commitment. There are certain un proven and ineffective treatment for this disorder. There was an experimental treatment referred as EDP which stands for enzyme potentiated desensitization. It has been tried for decades but is not effective. In this method there is a dilution of the allergens and an enzyme which is referred as the beta glucuronidase in which T lymphocytes are bound to respond by favoring desensitization. There can be down regulation also. This method has been tried in case of auto immune diseases and is not approved by the US food and drug administration.

There is an alternative medicine which includes the nature pathic, herbal, homeo pathy, traditional Chinese medicines and applied kinesiology. There were literature reviews which were conducted by the mayo clinic in Rochester in the year 2006. There were multiple conditions which included the asthma and respiratory tract diseases which showed no effectiveness of homeopathic treatments. It showed no difference as compared to the placebo. There were other studies done in the case of homeo pathy treatment and there was no convincing evidence to support that the homeo pathy was effective in treating this disorders.
