How the shock can be treated?

It requires immediate treatment to save the life. The early recognition and treatment is needed before the diagnosis can be made. Most of the types of shock are treated with the intra venous fluids. The main goal of the treatment is to perfuse the organs by restoring and keeping a good flow of blood flow. It helps to maintain the function of heart. It does not allow the complications to develop. The patients with the shock must have proper airway management and the use of oxygen therapy. When there is a respiratory problem than one can go for intubation along with the mechanical ventilation.

If there is an emergency outside the hospital premises than the nurses can play a crucial role. They can do the intubation. But the purpose of this is to help in the survival of patient during transportation. The cause of the shock decides what the treatment must be.

The hypovolemic shock can be treated with the help of controlling the bleeding and maintaining the proper blood volume. This type of shock is mainly caused due to the trauma or injury. It is best treated by giving the solution of same concentration. It can be best done with the help of red blood cells, albumin along with the frozen plasma. They counteract with the loss of blood. One can slowly prevent this loss.

The loss of volume of fluid can occur due to burns along with the vomiting as well as diarrhea. The fluid goes inside due to the presence of proper sodium concentration. It does not allow the fluid to go inside the brain and prevents the water to become poisonous. One can observe a condition known as metabolic acidosis which can occur due to the lactic acid which is formed due to the poor transport of oxygen to the tissues. One must avoid the drugs which can lead to contraction of blood vessels. As they have the ability to affect the normal volume of blood.

The restoration of blood volume must be maintained. The airway along with the administration of oxygen must be given. It occurs through the vein. The flow through vein is at much faster rate as compared to other methods.

The decision to choose a type of fluid is very important. The most common fluids used in the treatment of shock are 0.9 percent sodium chloride. These are a type of crystalloids. The dextrose solutions which do not have free water are more effective to have a proper circulating volume. There is multiple chains of carbohydrates in the form of colloids. But they are quite expensive as compared to the crystalloid. Their benefit has not been proven yet. Some clinician suggests that the combination of colloids and crystalloids can be used. In severe cases a pre warmed blood can also be used and it infuses rapidly.

A patient must never be given plain water as it may lead to poisonous state of water due to the low electrolyte levels. One must go for a solution with a constant concentration or which is quite high in the electrolytes.

In the early treatment of shock there is no role of vaso constrictors which causes the contraction of blood vessels. A proper care and control of the bleeding must be done as soon as possible.

The cardiogenic shock can be treated with the help of fluids like they were used in the case of hypo volemic shock. The most common fluids used in the treatment of shock are 0.9 percent sodium chloride. These are a type of crystalloids. There is multiple chains of carbohydrates in the form of colloids. But they are quite expensive as compared to the crystalloid. One can also use the normal saline. There are few substances which play an important role in activating the heart and are known as inotropic agents. They help to deal with the hypotension.

The shock may lead to easy fatigue body with a very slow breathing and blood circulation. Ultimately, it can lead to the death of individual. So, our main aim is to increase the blood pressure which can be achieved by the methods mentioned below.

By the use of intra venous fluids along with the drugs which can contract the blood vessels. Use of anti shock garment which can put pressure on the legs and shift the blood to vital organ is quite helpful.

Blankets can also be used to keep the patient warm.

The distributive shock can be treated with the help of supportive care along with the use of antibiotics. Anaphylaxis is managed by the use of adrenaline drugs which help to improve the performance of heart. The inflammatory response is dealt with the help of corticosteroids. In the case of neurogenic shock there is a dilation of the blood vessels of legs. This can be treated by elevating the legs of patient and which does not allow the blood to move to peripheral parts. The dilation of blood vessels can be decreased with the help of nor epinephrine.

The obstructive shock can be treated with the help of removing any type of obstruction. It can be treated by decreasing the size of clot and removing the thrombi. It can also be treated by draining the excess of fluid.

The endocrine shock can be treated with the help of medicines which suppress the function of thyroid. One can also use surgery along with the radio therapy for this purpose. All processes are done with the way to manage hypo thyroidism.
