The abdominal cystic lymphangioma occur rarely. They make around 4 percent of all tumors and one fourth of the benign vascular tumors in children. No racial predominance is seen and the incidence of this disease is equal in both the sexes. It can occur at any age and half of them are seen at the birth. The rest of them appear when the child is 5 year old.

The lymphangioma lesion was described first by Redenbacher in the year 1828. The first case report of cystic hygroma was given by the Wernher in the year 1843. The hygroma means a fluid filled tumor. Another author Bill and Summer said that the cystic hygroma and lymphangioma are single entity and their position determines the classification.
