It is mainly classified on the basis of the lymphocytes which are reduced. If all of them are reduced then the present term is used. In case of T lympho cytopenia the T lymphocytes are very few. The remaining lymphocytes are normal in number. The HIV infection which causes the AIDS may cause this condition. It may be idiopathic also which is called the Idiopathic CD4plus lymphocytopenia. It is referred as ICL. It is a rare condition which is heterogeneous in nature. It is defined as the CD4 T cell count which is below 300 cells per muL.

There is no specific reason for it. It does not occur by AIDS or chemotherapy. In case of B lympho cytopenia the B lymphocytes are very few in number and the remaining lymphocytes are normal in number. It is mainly caused by the medicines which suppress the immune system. In case of NK lympho cytopenia the natural killer lymphocytes are very few and the remaining lymphocytes are normal in number. This condition is not so common.
