R.L. Gallo showed that the patients with this disorder have increased levels of peptide cathelicidin. They also have increased levels of stratum corneum tryptic enzymes. The antibiotics have not been much successful in treating this disorder. There are few intestinal bacteria which may help to cause the disease.

The patients were subjected to hydrogen breath test which helped to determine the presence of small intestinal bacterial over growth. It is referred as SIBO. It was clear that the patients had higher incidence as compared to controls. The SIBO positive patients received 10 day course of rifaximin. It is the antibiotic which is present on the digestive tract only it does not reaches the skin or circulation. Almost all the patient’s show remission of this disorder and it lasted for 9 months. These patients show negative bacterial growth. In very few of the cases there was relapse and the bacterial over growth was positive and another course of antibiotic was given. It gave rise to temporary remission.

Another study also showed that the patients which were SIBO negative with the use of hydrogen breath test were positive when the methane breath test was used. They did not respond to the antibiotic rifaximin contrary to the other tests and the antibiotic metronidazole was effective in treating the disorder. It cleared the rosacea symptoms and the breath tests were normal. This antibiotic is effective in treating the methanogenic anaerobic bacteria. They are found in the intestine. There are diverse stains of intestinal bacteria which are responsible for causing these effects.

A reduced carbohydrate diet is very beneficial in this regard. It reduces the chances of bacterial fermentation and so decreases the bacterial population. The reduced carbohydrate diet is like the diet which our ancestors must have eaten prior to the use of agriculture. The new patterns of carbohydrate consumption may lead to the bacterial over growth in few patients. The individuals with this disorder have large number of mites which mainly occurs in the steroid induced rosacea. In large numbers they play a crucial role along with the other triggers.

The Demodicidosis is also known as the Mange which show rosacea like appearances. The other causes involve the episodes of blushing and flushing. The exposure to extreme temperatures may lead to the flushing of face. This may also occur due to the sternous exercise, heat from sun light, sun burn, anxiety, tension andstress, cold wind. It can also occur by the use of certain drinks and food which involve the use of alcohol, caffeine, spicy food and food rich in the histamine.

The food which is rich in histamine like red wine, beer and yoghurt can cause facial flushing even there is no rosacea. This condition is referred as histamine intolerance. There are few medicines and topical irritants which can cause rosacea. There are few acne and wrinkle treatment which can cause the micro derm abrasion and chemical peels. It may also lead to the high doses of iso tretinoin, benzoyl peroxide, tretinoin. The steroid induced disorder is caused by the use of topical or nasal steroids. They are mainly used for the seborrheic dermatitis. The dose should be decreased slowly and should not be stopped immediately.
