It is defined as a disorder in which there is a phase of the sleep. It is in coordination with the patients which feel a lot sleepy. The patient goes to bed early in the evening. He wakes up early in the morning. It is also referred as the ASPS. The advanced sleep phase syndrome is also known as ASPT. This disorder is quite common among the females which are post menopausal as well as in the elderly people.

What is the epidemiology of advanced sleep phase syndrome?

It includes the1 percent of adults which suffer from this disorder. In the senior citizens the rates are much higher as compared to the young citizens. It affects both the sexes equally. It shows a strong link between the 50 percent of people which are related to this syndrome. There are many genes which are linked to this disorder. It is also related to the body circadian rhythm. It is not impairing and this condition can be healthy. Most of the people do not look for a help from the other conditions unless we see an adverse impact on their social life.

What are the signs and symptoms of advanced sleep phase syndrome?

In this the patients are not able to wake at their desired time. The complaint is given to a physician who deals with the sleep problems. It is commonly known as morning insomnia. The person goes to sleep in the early evening. The patients with this syndrome have abnormal levels of the melatonin along with the core body temperature. These symptoms must be present for 3 months so that the condition can be diagnosed properly.

What is the treatment of advanced sleep phase syndrome?

It includes the diagnosis with the help of poly somno graphy. It occurs in the overnight sleep lab. In the evening this condition can be treated with the help of bright lights. One can also go for a behavior with the use of chrono therapy or a free running sleep. This disorder does not affect the normal function of the body. The patient has no complain about the sleepness during the day time. This syndrome may be loose in the evenings and is lost in the case of social gatherings. The sufferer of this syndrome may lead to the circadian rhythms. The person who suffers from this disorder has a habit of waking up early in the morning. If this condition is not treated it may lead to the deprivation of chronic sleep. It may lead to other sleep disorders also.

What is a familial advanced sleep phase syndrome?

There was a research group at the University of California. L Ptaceks. in 1999 found the circadian rhythm disorder. They show a familiar pattern. It showed a lifelong pattern of sleep onset that is late in the evening and waking up early in the morning. Out of 29 people, 3 were known as the lineages and were affected with this syndrome. There is around 50 people who are not affected by this disorder. The results showed that this disorder was of autosomal dominant type.
