What is Acalvaria?

It is defined as a condition in which there is a malformation which includes the absence of calvarial bones, dura mater and the associated muscles in the presence of a normal skull base and facial bones. It does not involve the central nervous system. It is a rare disorder.

What are the signs and symptoms of Acalvaria?

It includes the holo prosencephaly, hydro cephalus and micropolygyria. There are cardiac anomalies, omphalocele, hyper telorism, cleft mouth and palate. It also shows the hexadactyly, club foot and congenital medullo blastoma.

What is the treatment of Acalvaria?

There is no specific treatment for this disorder. There is no surgical procedure to correct the skull defect. It is reported in the period of infancy. There is a conservative management with a careful follow up and there is a bone grafting. It is done at the school age and have yielded good results.
