It is defined as a condition in which there is an infant who has abdominal wall defect and has an unusual opening. It allows the intestine and other organs to grow outside the body. The defects can be omphalocele and gastroschisis.
The defects present in the fetus are of non descriptive type.
These openings are detected by the AFP screening and ultrasound. The genetic counseling and testing is very helpful in this regard. The amniocentesis can be done later on. It helps to identify the genetic disorders. The surgery after the birth is helpful in repairing the birth defects. It is effective when there are no genetic problems or birth defects.
